June 6, 2015 (Saturday)

5:30 am Sullivan arrived home and gave Leonna a cup of juice.

6:30 am Sullivan checks on Leonna before going to bed.

9:30 am Sullivan and Travil wake up and see the front door is open, and Leonna is missing.

9:47 am A neighbor calls 911 to report the missing child.

Leonna went missing from her home on Edgewood square apartment complex in Pendleton, Cherry street.

https://charleyproject.org/case/leaona-cheyanne-wright

Investigators were told a 3-year-old sibling may have opened the door allowing Leonna to crawl away. https://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/news/crime/2015/06/30/missing-babys-mother-charged-neglect/29527465/

Lt. Josh Payne said a witness told deputies a 3-year-old child opened the door.

http://www.14news.com/story/29255271/deputies-search-for-missing-pendleton-child

However, investigators determined sometime later that the 3-year-old could not unlock the door.

https://www.wyff4.com/article/murder-charge-dropped-in-case-of-of-leonna-wright-who-has-been-missing-since-2015/38530228

Investigators wonder if Leonna was home between 5:30 am-9:30 am and question the story they are told as truth.

https://charleyproject.org/case/leaona-cheyanne-wright

"Investigators also believe the child was not there when her mother arrived home at 5:30 on Saturday morning."

https://www.wyff4.com/article/acso-dss-takes-custody-of-missing-baby-s-siblings/7015664

Later it was determined that Sullivan had been at a party while the child stayed with Travis Jones. When Sullivan returned, the child was gone. https://www.wspa.com/news/local-news/warrants-obtained-in-leonna-wright-disappearance-solicitor-says/

Grandfather Sullivan tells the papers that his daughter was at her sister's bachelorette party and that when she arrived home that morning, she went to care for her children, but Jones had stopped her and said they had already been cared for.

https://www.wyff4.com/article/search-for-missing-baby-moves-12-miles-from-her-home-sheriff-says/7015251

In an emotional interview, Grandmother Sullivan says that she was told Jones woke Sullivan up and told her the door was open, the three-year-old opened the door, and the baby was missing.

Sullivan cries then and says, "cause she was never there."

They discuss Jone's character and how he had never acted like that before, and Sullivan thought he loved her children.

https://www.wyff4.com/article/public-romance-scams-warning/42876164

"When Gaither asked Sullivan about waking up to the open door, she said: "I don't want to talk about that. I just want them to bring her; that's what I'm worried about. I want her with me. Don't matter the condition. It would give me closure if I could see her."

June 7, 2015 (Sunday)

Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper announced "No major breaks" in the case. This is the second-day deputies with hatches and machetes scoured the woods around the apartments. Fifteen deputies searched this day but stopped when heavy rains began at 7:30 pm.

"We just wanted to make sure that we came back and covered the area again," Skipper said. "We didn't find anything."

Investigators search trash at a waste transfer center in Pendleton until 10 pm. Skipper said garbage from the apartment was likely brought to the site. (One news source says Saturday, and the other says Sunday morning. One source says both days. Skipper mentions the trash picked up the day before, around 8 am. This interview was posted on the 8th.)

"From history throughout the county, you know that when people come up missing, sometimes they end up in a landfill," Skipper said. "We always try to put this first on our list. That way, we'll know that if it wasn't in the truck then we don't have to go someplace else and dig later."

June 8, 2015 (Monday)

A vigil is held outside the apartment. They lit candles, prayed, and handed out flyers.

"She was a sweet baby. I just want somebody to tell me anything, any little thing would help. I just want her back, back to me and my family. That's all that matters to me," Sullivan said.

https://www.wyff4.com/article/search-for-missing-baby-moves-12-miles-from-her-home-sheriff-says/7015251

Law enforcement released the 911 call. The call in which a woman tells 911 that a baby who could not walk is missing from the apartment. The woman says the mother was sleeping, and the child was gone when she woke.

"I asked her to call her baby dad to see if he, you know, picked the child up, but the older little girl is here," a woman said Saturday in 911 recordings obtained by The Greenville News. "And she keep saying, if he got the baby he would've got the older one. So it's just kind of confusing. I don't know. It don't make sense."

The 911 caller said she saw Sullivan and Jones try and get info from the three-year-old. The girl said she had opened the door.

"She's telling somebody else now that when she looked outside, her little sister was by — it's a car right here in the mixed breezeway complex — that she was right here but somebody picked her up," the woman said to the dispatcher.

Sullivan and Leonna's biological father, Richard Lane Wright, assaults and threatens a fast food restaurant worker on 101 Interstate Boulevard in Anderson.

https://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/news/crime/2015/06/30/missing-babys-mother-charged-neglect/29527465/

The victim Reese (Wendy's Employee), was told by her manager, Wright, to do a floor sweep. When the victim did not complete the task immediately, she overheard Wright talking about her to another employee. Then the victim confronted Wright, and he yelled, shook his finger in her face, removed his shirt, and said, "she could come get some." Then he told her, "he was going to get his baby mama to come up there and beat her up."

Sullivan arrived and began to yell for the victim to come outside. However, Reese had locked herself in the office and stayed there.

June 30, 2015 (Tuesday Afternoon)

In an unrelated case, Kiara Shaquara Monique Sullivan (then 22) and live-in boyfriend Travis Devon Jones (then 300) were arrested on child neglect charges. They both lived at 950 Cherry St. Apt, A10 Pendleton.

A three-year-old girl in their care tested positive for methamphetamine, cocaine, and THC. Sullivan also tested positive. Jones admits to drug use while caring for the child. Department of Social Services did the tests.

Sullivan was also charged with assault and battery of third degree of threatening a fast food restaurant worker.

Jones was not arrested this day as he was already in custody from an unrelated failure to appear charge. https://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/news/crime/2015/06/30/missing-babys-mother-charged-neglect/29527465/

July 1, 2015 (Wednesday night)

Sullivan has court and was given a 5,000 surety bond for her unlawful neglect of a child. 1,092.50 recognizance bond for assault and battery charge. They scheduled her to return to court on July 21 for the assault and battery. August 7 for the unlawful neglect of a child.

An activist advocated that Sullivan was not a flight risk if she had a bond. Sullivan cried and was emotional.

Richard Wright was charged with third-degree assault.

Jones had court, and he had no family or supporters. The bond was 15,000, and his scheduled court date was August 14.

Detectives tell the papers that Sullivan and Jones hindered the case by telling them the false information that the baby's sibling opened the door. Capt. Garland Major tells the papers, "I'm not exactly sure how the baby got out, but I know it did not get out the way it was first reported." https://www.wyff4.com/article/this-day-in-history-daylight-saving-time-in-us/42800071

September 9, 2015 (Wednesday)

A prayer vigil is held.

"We need closure to go on with our lives," said Leonna's grandmother Julia Sullivan.

October 14, 2015

Jones pleads guilty to unlawful conduct toward a child. Jones also pleads guilty to a probation violation.

Jones is now estranged from Sullivan who gave this quote.

"I'm not satisfied (with the Jones' sentence), but it's a beginning. He got three years and he'll have to do time for what he has done to my children and my family," Sullivan said. "He's going to have to suffer the consequences, and I'm happy he won't be on the road, and I just want everything to come to the light."

Jones was sentenced to three years, minus the 130 days he had already spent in Jail.

Sullivan's charges were still pending.

May 25, 2016

January 2020

The 10th Circuit Solicitor has had the case file for review.

https://www.wspa.com/news/local-news/warrants-obtained-in-leonna-wright-disappearance-solicitor-says/

Estimated Time Unknown

The arrest warrants were announced controversially by Tenth Circuit Solicitor David Wagner. Wagner released a statement about the situation and said he was asked to review the case before charging, but the sheriff did not wait for the completion.

"I cannot speak to the appropriateness of these charges until the full review process is finalized to ensure the high standards of evidence that we require for prosecution have been met," said Wagner. "Therefore, my office considers this matter to remain an on-going open investigation, and for that reason I will not be commenting further at this time."

"I am aware that warrants have been obtained by the Anderson County Sheriff's Office at the direction of Sheriff McBride in the matter of the tragic case of Leonna Wright. As a courtesy to the Sheriff's Office I agreed to review the Leonna Wright case file prior to any charging decision being made. Unfortunately, the Sheriff's Office has declined to return this courtesy by waiting until my review was complete prior to charging. I cannot speak to the appropriateness of these charges until the full review process is finalized to ensure the high standards of evidence that we require for prosecution have been met. Therefore, my office considers this matter to remain an on-going open investigation, and for that reason I will not be commenting further at this time."

Anderson County Sheriff's Office replied with a statement as well.

"We feel that the early release of the information regarding the case of Baby Leona Wright by the 10th Circuit Solicitor's Office is potentially reckless and unorthodox. We are in somewhat disbelief that these actions have occurred as it is not normal standard procedure.

The release of this information was done prematurely and can now potentially cause a flight risk of suspect(s) in this case. It also creates an officer safety risk for those involved in trying to apprehend the suspect(s).

Additionally, the 10th Circuit Solicitor's has had the case file for review since January 2020. Anderson County Sheriff's Detectives recently presented the facts of this case to a Magistrate, who found probable cause to issue arrest warrants. The ACSO will have no further comment until arrests have made."

The ACSO detectives said they presented facts to a magistrate judge who found probable cause to issue arrest warrants.

July 8, 2020 (Estimated Date)

Jones was arrested and charged with murder by child abuse. Jones maintained his innocence. The arrest warrant said, "did cause the death of a one-year-old child while committing child abuse or neglect, under the circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to human life."

The warrant also said that Jones willfully abandoned and neglected the child multiple times the day she went missing and has not been found dead or alive since that date.

The family agonizes and hopes they will get justice and answers for what happened to baby Leonna Wright. "He got to pay for what went down in that house that night. That I don't know, but whatever it is, or whatever he did, he should be man enough to step up and be accountable,"

December 15, 2021

According to Anderson County Clerk Of Court Richard Shirley, the murder charges were dropped in a preliminary hearing. However, the defense attorneys for the brother said the testimonies conflicted.

"Do you ever see Travis with Leonna with a bag with anything of that sort?" said Russell Sanford, Travis Jones' attorney.

"No, sir," said Investigator Grady Epps, with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.

Anderson County investigators said Leonna's mother told police a bag found at a property on Bickford Circle belonged to Donnie Jones.

"There's no physical evidence linking my client, Donnie Jones, to a homicide of the child in any way, is there?" asked Hadden Lucas, attorney for Donnie Jones.

"No, sir," Epps said.

Deputies say Donnie Jones's phone records show he was in the Bickford Circle area during the time of Leonna's disappearance, but no human remains were ever found.

"We had a cadaver dog actually indicated twice to possible human remains there on the property where that burn barrel was dumped," Epps said at the hearing.

"Is it the police theory was that the child was fed to the hogs, or put in a burn barrel - which one is it?" Lucas asked.

"We never found any kind of evidence to say she was fed to the hogs," Epps said. "But we do have somebody saying they saw her in the burn barrel."

https://www.wyff4.com/article/conflicting-testimony-evidence-magistrate-finds-in-leonna-wright-hearing/38544530

Sheriff McBride released the statement.

"On December 15, 2021 the case regarding Leonna Wright was dismissed in a preliminary hearing. Although the Magistrate that issued the arrest warrants for the two defendants originally found probable cause to charge them, a different Magistrate that oversaw the proceeding today found that there was insufficient probable cause to move forward. While I disagree with today's ruling, the Anderson County Sheriff's Office is committed to seeking justice for Baby Leonna Wright. Our Detectives continue to investigate this incident in hopes to find additional evidence that would lead to the prosecution and conviction of those responsible. When I inherited this case in 2017, I was determined to bring to justice those responsible for Baby Leonna. I am thankful for all of the Detectives that have been involved in this investigation and am grateful for all of their hard work, effort, and countless manhours spent working on this case. I am confident they will continue their relentless pursuit for justice."

The family and an activist who worked with the family since the disappearance said they were not informed of the hearing ahead of time.

"A lot of thoughts went through my mind, but to be honest with you it was sort of expected," said Community Activist Traci Fant. "It was a 50/50 chance they would uphold the charges because there was no body."

Sheriff McBride said the detectives would continue to investigate the case.
